What we do

Workplace Skills for Life

Workplace Skills for Life is the name given to the provision of education programmes which develop the basic skills of reading, writing, oral communication, numeracy and, increasingly, IT, in a vocational context.

The programmes are intended for employees at various levels in industry and business and are tailored to the particular requirements of each organisation and the individual needs of their employees. The programmes can be designed to support other training or to help with a specific problem in a workplace, for example, metrication or poor written communication.

Workplace Skills for Life is an integral part of Read On - Write Away! and we can offer the following:

  • Presentations for Human Resources/Training Managers
  • Presentations to employees
  • A training needs analysis - in respect of Skills for Life
  • A job skills analysis
  • Individual interviews and assessments for employees
  • Training packages customised for each organisation and delivered on site
  • National Tests in Adult Numeracy and Literacy at levels 1 and 2
  • Embedded training and support for vocational skills, eg NVQs
  • Help for workplace trainers who may need to support employees with basic skills problems to access other training courses.

"We think it will impact directly on the bottom line, as it will improve the way people do their jobs, and improve efficiency," HR Manager of Paper Mill in Chesterfield

"I never thought learning was for me - this course proved I was wrong," employee

"Employee confidence and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, both orally and in writing, has improved, including organising ideas more concisely, improved punctuation, grammar and composing emails," Trade Union Learning Rep
