Talking Partners
Developed by our partners, 'Language for Life' in Bradford, this rigorous strategy has helped hundreds of Derbyshire children achieve a breakthrough in communication skills. Teaching Assistants (or experienced volunteers) are trained as 'Talking Partners' who work with children in age groups Reception to Year 4.
Two days training for partners - with one teacher per school attending on the second day only. Our training days are 'volunteer friendly', from 9.30am to 2.45pm.
All materials, including photocopiable masters, are supplied.
Talking Partners is designed for children from Reception to Year 4 who have poorly developed speaking and listening skills. Each Partner works with a group of three children for three 20 minute sessions per week for 10 weeks. Talking Partners supports the skills taught in the KS1 Literacy Hour. The pack contains everything needed to encourage children to listen carefully and to speak productively.
Apart from staff/volunteer time, the cost of implementing Talking Partners is minimal.
Prices per delegate on courses organised by ROWA! start at £150 (with discounts for more delegates, and for Derbyshire and Derby City schools). Details of the next Talking Partners course in Derbyshire will be posted here soon.
If you would like to hold a Talking Partners course at your school, please phone 01629 585603, or email us with your contact details here.
