Buddy Reading

Developed from ROWA!'s award winning Buddy Reading scheme, this flexible and friendly strategy has helped thousands of Derbyshire children become more confident and enthusiastic readers. The 'buddies' learn about reading development and they are trained to use techniques which can really make a difference to their partner - fluency, comprehension, a range of decoding strategies, and most importantly enjoyment and confidence in reading. As one headteacher said, "Buddy Reading is brilliant - everyone wins!"

School Buddy Reading is designed for children who lack:

• confidence in reading
• the full range of decoding strategies
• fluency
• comprehension skills

ROWA! can arrange Buddy Reading training sessions for your older students in all age ranges, eg Y2 working with Foundation, Yr6 working with Yr2, or Yr12 students working with primary children. Buddy Reading can also be used to train adults in your school, eg lunchtime supervisors and classroom volunteers.

The training is delivered over 2 x 90 minute sessions for up to 30 buddies. The cost is £480 plus expenses.

Could you become a ROWA! Buddy Reading trainer?

ROWA! likes to work with excellent teachers to deliver its school based services and is currently recruiting teachers for its pool of trainers.  This is a fantastic opportunity for schools and their teachers:

1. the teacher receives full training on how to deliver a ROWA! course
2. the school benefits from gaining the fully trained staff who can then deliver the training within their school
3. ROWA! will pay the full supply costs + travel expenses for that teacher when we require them to deliver the training to other schools in your area on our behalf.
