Training

Push On Writing!

Developed exclusively for Read On - Write Away!, this strategy has motivated hundreds of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire children to become enthusiastic and creative writers. Teaching Assistants or adult volunteers are given a wealth of strategies and the confidence to encourage reluctant writers.

POW! is designed for children who have adequate reading skills but constantly fail to produce good writing and are therefore unlikely to reach the national average in KS2 English SAT. Groups of three children receive two 30 minute sessions per week for 10 weeks.

At the end of each term, schools taking part in Push On Writing! training are encouraged to send in end of programme reports for those children who have taken part. Set out below is the graph which shows the teachers' subjective assessment on progress in writing skills.

Originally designed for Years 5 to 7, POW! has been adapted by schools for use across all key stages. All materials, including games and photocopiable masters, are supplied with the training. Once partners have their own POW! kit, there is virtually nothing extra to buy. POW! resources are ideal for ECAW tuition!

A one-day course (9.30 am to 2.30 pm), costing £100 per person. You can get up to 3 FREE places if you can host the training at your school and help to find 15 delegates from other schools to attend the training. The host school would be responsible for providing a suitable space, furniture, refreshments and lunch for up to 20 adults.
