A) Talking Word Games
1. I Spy - good for helping distinguish letter sounds. One person chooses an object that they can see and invites the other person to guess it by saying, "I spy with my little eye something beinning with ... (gives the first letter of the word)". When the word has been guessed the next person takes a turn.
2. Rhyming I Spy - good for identifying letter sounds. One person chooses an object that they can see and thinks of a word which would rhyme with the name of the object. They invite the other person to guess it by saying "I spy with my little eye something that rhymes with ... (gives the rhyming word)". When the word has been guessed the next person takes a turn.
3. Word Chain - good for identifying letter sounds and extending vocabulary. One person says a word to which the other person has to respond with a word which has a similar meaning or a word that rhymes.
Eg
End/send/mend/repair/rare/care/fair/pale/whale/sale/stale/old/fold/mould/ cold/chilly/silly
4. Alphabet Packing: good for identifying letter sounds. You list items that you will take on holiday in alphabetical order - each person has to recite the whole list and add their item at the end.
Eg Person A: When we go on holiday I will take an airbed
Person B: When we go on holiday I will take an airbed and a book to read
Person A: When we go on holiday I will take an airbed, a book to read and a
