Stick At It!

5 Minute Activities

E) Card Games - using the Stick At It! letter pack:

24. Building Words with the same endings - Choose three or four letters which are often found at the end of a word and then see how many different words you can make by adding different letters to the front of these.
Eg: three letters - a-t-e. To these you could add d (date), f (fate), g (gate),
h (hate).
Eg: four letters - i-g-h-t. To these you could add f (fight), l (light), n (night),
m (might).

25. Anagrams: using words that your child has difficulty with pick out the letters which make up the word and mix them up - then ask your child to sort them out to spell the word.

26. Speed Word: deal out 12 cards and agree a time limit of 1 or 2 minutes. See how many different words your child can make in that time.

27. Crossword Building: deal out 8 cards. Make a word and lay it out. Deal out cards to replace the ones you have used so that you again have 8 cards and see if you can make another word to join onto your first, like a crossword.
