Stick At It!

What is it?

Stick At It! is a 10 week programme of activities that you can undertake with your child to help them become more independent as readers, and to build their confidence and enjoyment in their own skills.

Who is it for?

It is designed for any carer/dad/mum who wants to help their child develop as a reader. Your child will need to be able to read some words. The whole family can join in with some of the activities but there are key times when you need to read with your child on their own.

What will I have to do?

You will need to take part in a training session, where you will be given a pack of resources. Following this you will need, on 3 days each week for 10 weeks, to spend 15 minutes reading or doing reading activities with your child. As a family you will also need to go to the library every other week to keep stocked up with books.

The scheme is being piloted with two groups of parents of Children in Care in Derbyshire and Derby City, and it will become more widely available in the near future.

These pages are intended for individuals who are taking part in the Stick At It! reading scheme. If you are interested in this pilot project please contact Annette at Read On - Write Away!
