Peak District Food Heritage Project
An exciting new project has been set up in the Peak District to capture and record memories focusing on the production and sale of food. The Peak District Food Heritage Project is being jointly run by The Farming Life Centre at Blackwell and ROWA! The eighteen month project will produce a book of reminiscences, poems and stories using the memories captured from older residents, set up listening posts for local people and visitors to use and create a reminiscence website. Ten volunteers will be recruited to help with this project. After initial training from the East Midlands Oral History Archive, the volunteers will meet with and record the memories of retired farmers, butchers, bakers and others who can tell of a world and a time very different from the one we live in today.
With the help of a creative writer, the volunteers will be able to help turn the collected memories into finished products. People who are interested in joining the project should contact either Jen Bower at the Farming Life Centre on 01298 85162 or Tony Faulkner at ROWA! on 01246 204851 ext 305.
