Transitions Together (ICT) CD-rom

If you and the families that you come into contact with are concerned about family learning and the transition for children between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 then this programme has much to offer. Transitions Together (ICT) is a powerful and effective way of working with adults (parents/carers/guardians) and children on ICT. The expectation is that the adults will gain in their understanding of this curriculum area, support the children's skills at home and therefore help to improve the skills of the children.

Aims:

  • To give parents information about the structure, teaching methods and ethos of ICT in KS3.
  • To improve the literacy skills, knowledge and understanding of parents/carers and children, in particular, to improve their use of the metalanguage, ie the technical vocabulary used in children's learning.
  • To increase the confidence of those involved and to empower parents/carers to support their children's ICT and literacy learning.

Other aims may include:

  • Improved relationships with school.
  • Increase in personal confidence and self-esteem.
  • Progression routes for adults.

Who it is aimed at:

  • Children in Y6 and Y7 and their parents/carers, particularly those children with a reading age of 8-9 years.

The Transitions Together (ICT) course gives guidance to practitioners through a practitioner handbook, learner activities, a powerpoint presentation, mapping to adult and child curricula and a suite of resources that detail sessional activities that are both fun and informative.
